Two Riparian Areas

Going Over the Top Past the Spring

Backtracking though a portion of the seep area, the trail gave me a choice to go up and away from the spring toward the south.  This is the trail coming out of the trees:

Next we walk along the edge of a ridge cut by water. In the distance are some houses and trees that are in the town of Blue Diamond (a city with springs):

Ridge edges continue to be worked on by water erosion and freeze-thaw action in winter, causing edges to become unstable:

Trixie was examining the depth of this cleft:

That block of rock below probably fell not many years ago:

There are more such clefts, these are not stable cliff edges, and in the distance you can see the path back down to the wetter area below us:

The views back to Red Rock from this rise are very pleasing:

Turns out there is a decent path back down, unfortunately I did not see it and scrambled down this slope instead:

On the way I met one of those bugs that stick their rear end up if they feel threatened: their rears are horrible to eat for birds, this is how birds are reminded:

The dumb bug did not realize I was a vegetarian I guess.

Next, we are back in the wetter area, this time moving north, back toward the spring.
