Publisher information giving the name of the editor, Josef Bergenthal, who prepared this short version of Hermann Löns' book for the artist Hans Pape to illustrate.

Hans Pape signed each illustration with a stylized HP. As far as I could tell, he placed many wolf-rune symbols into his drawings. Some are overlain at right angles to look like swastikas, making a very strong symbolic connection betweeen this tale of heroic defense and the World War II German war effort to dominate the world in defense of the "Aryan race".
