NV 1. The Chateau de Maintenon

Part 2 Photos of the Chateau de Maintenon from its grounds

(no interior photography permitted)

The town of Maintenon sits alongside the Heure River:

The support buildings (farm houses and stables, now abandoned) of the chateau sit across from the chateau on the other side of the river:

This is a very friendly chateau, built for comfort and elegance, not for defense:

Since no photos are allowed inside (sorry, but the inside is simply gorgeous, a real treasure house!), the rest of these photos are necessarily of the exterior and gardens, starting with the obligatory pond with Louis XIV's unfinished aqueduct giving it additional character:

Yes, trees grow on the aqueduct:

Walking back to the chateau from here shows it nicely in its setting, a park designed by Louis XIV's favorite French palace grounds and parks designer, André Le Nôtre:

The town of Maintenon in which the chateau sits is pleasantly quaint:

Seeing a historically significant and beautifully appointed chateau with good friends, and in good weather, is a great way to spend a day.

I recommend it highly.
