NV 3. The Bois de Meudon

Part 1 of 2 parts

After the chateau visit we went back to Claudio and Serena’s house on the side of a hill by the Bois Meudon. The idea of going to their home was to see the giant sequoia tree in front of their abode, to see their rooftop garden, and watch the sunset and moonrise over Paris.

But before that we had a great dinner of vegetables and fruit, a scrumptious fruit pie, Parisian style with a pistachio-paste filling, and to eat some figs off the tree in the yard.  I went back to my hotel quite happily stuffed.

Yes, there are a few sequoia trees in Europe, as Wikipedia attests.  My brother Alex looked this up for me, thanks Alex.  This nice one is the variety that grows on the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, the sequoiadendron (it can stand winter frosts, but the Coast Redwoods cannot stand deep frosts, so they could not live here).

So, what about this sunset and moonrise?  Missed the sunset while eating (good cause), and the moon had already risen by the time we stepped into the rooftop garden.  But the view from here was (is) spectacular! Agree?

Notice that palm?  A palm in Paris!

The next day toward evening I took a walk in the Bois Meudon.  On my way there from Issy-les-Moulineaux, at the southern end of Boulevard Jean Jaures, I followed a trail under the commuter train line, on up the hill, and was quite surprised to see some art work that was impressively well done.  I'll just show a couple of examples here (each is part of a multi-photo expanse, but I don't want to try to tell their stories here, just show their quality):

Further, I walked through a neighborhood with some views into the city below, and up at some mighty fine houses:

After this neighborhood, I trudged up another grade on a rough and rocky path, and then into the woods of Bois de Meudon proper, where trees and sunlight were a delight to walk through.

But that part deserves a second page! Click here to go there now!
