Slaughter Canyon Trails

2.    The Trail to Slaughter Canyon Cave

2. B. At the cave entrance

The entrance is very well sealed: entry is by appointment and with a ranger only!  Reservations can be made via the Carlsbad Caverns National Park website (click here).

Another natural opening has been sealed up to prevent unauthorized entry.  All of this security is to protect the cave, of course.  If you really want to do a cave on your own, there are other natural caves in the area that do not require a park ranger to guide you.

The paraphernalia for a tour: sign up sheets, rescue and first aid kits:

This is as deep as light penetrates into the cave from the gate:

The view from the cave level is quite nice, we have gained 500 rather-steep-in-places feet on our little hike:

I am always thankful for trail builders.  The trail goes through that gap below us:

And so as not to belabor the trail, we don't take any more pictures until we see that the car is still in the parking area:

Now that we are back to the beginning.

Let's hike up the canyon next.  To do so with me, hit that next link!
