DESERT WILDFLOWERS NEAR LAS VEGAS, SPRING 2001

FLOWERS JUST WEST OF LAUGHLIN, NEVADA

Part 3 of 5

After crossing the Colorado River back into Nevada, right next to the town of Laughlin, about a hundred miles south of Las Vegas, this scene stole my attention and I had to pull over to see it up close:

Just what were these purple flowers that loved this sand dune so much?  I believe it is a combination of purple 'sand verbena' and white 'dune evening primrose.'  I believe the last picture on the previous page was also a 'dune evening primrose.'

After having gotten our fill of this wonderfully bright hillside, we continued uphill, to go west until we could then go north, back to Las Vegas, on US Highway 95.  I will just share some of the views along the way up to the divide.  Here is the last chance to turn back and look towards Laughlin and Bullhead City (on the Arizona side of the river):

And along the roadside, there was the same assortment of flowers as already seen on pages 1 and 2 in this series, but nonetheless beautiful!

By the time we crested over the range that separates Laughlin from US 95, the flowers were rather diminished, and no more pictures were taken.

Another day well spent.

But of course there were other days, other locations, and other flowers, as you can see by visiting the other pages in this series.
