Brussels in March 2007

An extraordinary lectern or pulpit stands in the cathedral of Saints Michael and Gudula:  it is made of cherry wood, hand carved, and depicts the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden at its lower level, and the triumph of Mary over the serpent in the upper level, it is a marvelous work of art and hard for me to capture in a photo:

After my visit to Saints Michael's and Gudula's cathedral, I walked through the central square, the heart of Brussels:

My next artwork surprise was this statue of the woman at the well (I guess) on the street next to the oldest church in town, the Saint Nicolas church:

The Saint Nicolas church is not much to look at from the outside, but inside it is another treasure house of art:

After a short walk I ended up at another of my perennial favorties, Saint Catherine's church, a somewhat younger church, a little off the beaten track, that is receiving a much-needed face lift.

Inside, it is not as ornate as the first two churches visited today, but it does have some striking art of the painted (not shown), sculpted (on of members of the holy family, one of Saint Catherine, and one of Mary) and stained-glass-window (Saint Vatherine?) varieties:

After all this beauty my heart was full and I was too tired to go on so went to sleep to prepare for a full day of work the next morning.  Two day later found me in Vienna for more work (see link below).  I do like my job, in case you wonder.  Look at the opportunities it has given me these last 24 years! Opportunities that have fed many pages on this website in addition to enriching my inner, personal life.
