Bryce Canyon

An Overview and a Short Walk on the Navajo Trail

PART 2: A Short Walk on the Navajo Trail

The next morning we (Aubree--my granddaughter, and I) drove back to Sunset Point and got on the Navajo Trail.  This was the view at the start:

Our goal was to walk to the pine forest and back in a relative hurry since we still needed to get back to the hotel, pack, and check out before 11. We liked this sentinel soon standing far above us:

On the way down we found the views so stunning that it took a while, like this view to the north near the start of the trail:

This view to the northeast a little further down the trail:

And as we got to the big rocks here were some more downward looking views to the east-north-east:

Soon we found ourselves behind some large rock formations, with a few holes and a surprise side-canyon:

Next came switchbacks that promised to get us to the pines in a hurry:

Along the way we saw some evidence of trees having a tough life in eroding sand:

A natural bridge stood at the end of the switchbacks:

And a side canyon gave us two more natural bridges to look at:

Finally healthy trees stood among the tall spires:

And then we reached our goal, we were in the pine trees at the bottom.

Now we had to scramble back up, in a hurry.

It was a wonderful short hike!
