A Walk in Golden Canyon: Part 3

Now we enter Red Cathedral, which means coming close to a red sandstone wall:

No shade in the cathedral, oh well, so we walk around the boulder in the above photo and spot a narrow slit of shade that leads to a steep trail that ends just a little farther up:

Of course we have to go see what there is to see from that little overlook, and what there is to see is the red wall in some detail:

Of course I could also see to the west and south from that overlook, but the photos were not that good, I was too hot to hold still very long, and decided to hurry back to the shady spot on the trail where I had left my water.

Leaving the Red Cathedral, I could see the Panamint Range.  As I walked down I looked forward to 'soon' being in the coolness of that range.  That is Telescope Peak on the left of the little saddle, and Wild Rose Peak on the right of the saddle.  I will be walking on that very saddle, to its leftmost extent in the photo below, for my next set of photo pages.  I will try to take a picture from there looking back here:

As often happens on mountain hikes, on the way down I spotted a few things I missed on the way up, like this side canyon view:

And the fallen rock from the upper echelon of rocks into this gully:

I didn't see this horizontal ledge on the way up either:

But enough colorful and hot rocks! it is time to get cool in the Panamints!
