Field Trip
Part 3 Willow Creek near Cold Creek Village on the north-eastern flank of the Spring Range
![]()
Where we stop this time, we can see up to Wheeler Pass.

By looking back at the Spring Range we can see that we have moved northward, in essence, following Willow Creek.

Willow Creek now has much more flow and supports a great variety of plant life including water-plants, bushes and trees.

Where did all this extra water come from? From places like this: springs that flow into the creek. This one is called Willow Spring. It sits in a dry drainage that joins the creek, and then when we step down a few steps it suddenly appears:

There it is, from dry to wet in an instant, with water flowing what appears to be a gravel bar that this dry creek intersects:

I enjoyed seeing that the greenery in the surrounding scrub oak was coming out, from the bottom up as it were:

As with all these trips, as soon as they start they seem to end, but on the way back down the hill I was determined to capture a few blooms I had spotted on the way up:

Water shedding from the road multiplied the little rainfall that was had in this area this Spring and allowed a very nice bouquet to flourish alongside the road:

And from here it is only a few dozen miles to the city, and a little farther than that to get me home. Thanks for joining me on this field trip!
