More February Red Rock

PART THREE: Leaving and sunset

Coming back out of that little side canyon into the main canyon gave a nice view of water running between the red rock mass and the pile of sediment that is the main floor of the larger canyon:

Soon we are on top of the rocks closer to the parking lot, and can have a last look around for the day.  Here is another view of the separation between the red rock ridge and the valley fill:

Here is a view toward the side-canyon we just walked in:

And here is a view of sunlight in the south end of the Las Vegas valley:

As we got closer to the car, the dog insisted on being legal and asked for his leash (he walked himself proudly the last 15 minutes, much to the delight of some visitors greeting him at the parking lot):

Once back at the car, it was time to see some low sunlight to the west, over the tops of the cliffs that form the west wall of the canyon:

Just before leaving the parking are, we turn our view to the southwest to see some remnants of sunlight on Mount Potosi, on the southern part of the Spring Range:

Leaving the east side of the canyon gave a nice view of the tapered end of the north-south ridge we just walked on:

Coming around the north side of the canyon to start south gave a last look at that magnificent west wall:

That's it for this week.  In one of our next local walking adventures we will explore one of the canyons in that west wall.
