Sedona and Environs

PART 2

Walking to Red Rock Crossing in a Thunderstorm

Saturday evening we went for a walk while a thunderstorm raged to our West.  It seemed to be moving South, so we walked Northwest, but all of a sudden, we were rained on with heavy drops.  I liked the lightning, the thunder, and especially liked that it kept a respectable distance from us.  What did we see along the way?

We saw what must be the signature rock formation of Sedona, Cathedral Rock, which I hiked up into in 1998, from a different angle, and then walked around it and looked for Oak Creek from which to obtain a more traditional view:

When here on these wet rocks, we had no idea that this was exactly the same place we would come to tomorrow, on a paved road           from the west, to enjoy this creek in sunshine.

The way we found it this time was from the east side, walking on trails downhill toward trees obviously having a good water source:

We knew we were getting closer to the creek when we saw evidence of high water in what used to be tree roots:

And then, there it was!  The river (Oak Creek, actually). So we scrambled onto the red rock:

It was a cool adventure, literally as well as figuratively, and the trail had some nice scenes along it too:

Come with us the next morning when we come to this same place, Red Rock Crossing, in bright sunshine
