Vegas/San Franciso Flights, Again

Part 3, The Spring Range from the Air

I took Sierra pictures on the way to San Francisco (click on this link to go back there), but as you have seen on the previous page, this this trip also gave me some good views of the Spring Range as we left and returned to Las Vegas .  This page shows what was seen coming back from San Francisco, the previous page showed what was seen of the Red Rock area of the Spring Range going to San Franciso (click on this link to go back there).

The Spring Range is a north-south 'island in the desert' west of Las Vegas.  Here we are approaching its northern reaches from the northwest

We followed the range as we headed south:

And soon we were looking at the two highest peaks, Mt. Charleston in the foreground with Mummy Mountain behind it (we will show a series of three photos with Charleston moving to our left against Mummy as we move south):

In this last photo of that series of three, the connecting east-west ridge between Mummy and Charleston is plainly visible.  The local ski- an snowboard-resort is on the northern slope of that connector ridge.  Nice contrast between the wooded mountains and desert far below:

Next, the third highest peak is visible, Griffith Peak (foreground right):

Soon we are past the highest peaks of the range and getting ready to turn east toward the Las Vegas airport:

As soon as we make that eastward turn, we are back ober the Red Rock Recreation Area that we saw in the previous page:

And a few minutes later we landed.
