Visit to La Coruņa, Spain in 2005

A cruise of the harbor and bay of La Coruņa/A Coruņa, Spain

I got carried away and took over a hundred pictures on this hour-long cruise.  It was a private cruise for our working group arranged by our Spanish hosts.  Of course it would violate privacy if I posted photos of the group members.  So I won't, except this one from a distance showing us waiting for our tour boat:

Then here comes our boat into the harbor:

Next thing we know, we are on our way, and someone takes our picture from shore:

First we leave the harbor and the city:

Then we get into the larger bay and begin to see familiar sights:

What familiar sights?  The lighthouses, beach area, and Santa Cruz we saw from another perspective just the evening before!

On the way out of the harbor we pass the futuristic marker for the city and the old French (Napoleonic) fortress:

We then continue west and to the left (south) we see the Hercules tower:

And to the right (north) we see the peninsula with the lighthouses we have already visited, with the beach we visited and Santa Cruz to its right:

Coming back toward the harbor, we stayed on the north side of the bay, and could see the castle in front of Santa Cruz we had visited:

East of Santa Cruz are some nice beaches.  Here is a protected one behind some rocks (no waves, less fun?):

And here is a longer one that had lots of people on it:

Coming back into the harbor most of us watched a French ship being unloaded.  It was a coal ship, feeding local power plants:

We did not envy the guy on the bulldozer on the coal pile:

I took lots of silly pictures of the boat's wake and waves, and that is a good thing to end this cruise with:

An evening ride to see lighthouses, a beach and a castle at Santa Cruz, Spain.

A very old lighthouse on a Roman foundation

 La Coruņa from a hilltop

A visit to mile zero on the Camino: Cabo Finisterre, end of known world

 The beach at Finisterre

 A walk around La Coruņa
