Romantic Road Castles

The first page left us approaching the Marienbrucke bridge. The next stop is the Marienbrucke, which takes one to a trail that is dangerous for those unprepared, that goes into the unimproved highland trails above the castle and then continues on to join the Bavarian mountain trail system.

It sits high over a gorge, with water flowing through it.  Here is a view of the trail just before it gets to the bridge:

For some reason none of my bridge pictures were any good, not enough light, but I was able to get a poor photo looking  down off the bridge to the water below:

The views of the castle are very good from here, as is the view to the large lake to the northwest, the Forggensee.

Note the scaffolding, the place is being renovated.

On the trail back, with the aid of the spotlights, I was able to get one more photo:

It was so dark on the trail I had come up that I stayed on the road where I could see better.  At one point I was surprised at a bright light in the trees: the spotlights that light up the facade of the castle at night (as in the photo on page 1, taken from the trail at this point looking up):

Back in town I was wishing I was staying the night here, but I needed to be at the airport in Munich by 5 AM, so no rest now, back on the autobahn!

I found this old painting on a billboard, nice for a very last picture (that's my flash, not part of the painting although I sort of like it there):
