Destination 1:
A Salty Walk
![]()
So just who is the "we" that took this salty walk? Aubree (a granddaughter) and I.
Why? Because she saw the salt and wanted to walk on it. Good enough.
It was somewhat striking to see salt below us and snow above us (that is Telescope Peak at ~11,000 feet above mean sea level, hey, here is a good question for you: sea levels are rising, so are we going to revise all the world's elevations?):

Aubree was properly excited about it:

The salt flat we chose was near the 20-mule-team exhibit at the former site of a borax mine up against the distant low hillside:

A bit farther out someone had been driving on the salt, not a great idea since underneath it is often muddy (hygroscopic salts hang onto water, no matter what the sun's heat does):

One thing about walking on salt on a sunny day, you can feel mighty hot in a short time, and after a while this seemed like a good-enough distance, and headed back to the car:

Those little hills behind the car is where the road took us, through what looked like piles of sediment with a little salt sprinkled around here and there:

This was a short and tame ride, compared to Titus Canyon, which is next.

2. We took a drive through Titus Canyon just for fun, but I was the only one having any fun.
3. We visited Ubehebe Crater, a 2,000 year old volcano, the most recent one in the region!
4. Then we visited Scotties' Castle.
