March: South of France

A Short Trip with Multiple Destinations:

Destination 1:  La Grande Motte

Part Two: Beaches and Bulls

We now continue the beach walk started on the previous page, politely keeping a good distance from the people on the beach who deserve privacy:

The distance from the beach to the city is a pleasant few minutes' stroll:

If we now go back to that park in the above photo and turn to the right, we get away from the beach and walk on a protective barrier that protects the land and the beach from storm-wave erosion:

Turning around, there is a view of the lighthouse:

Note that this beach runs pretty much north-south, and we are looking north at this point, toward Montpellier, the city I flew in and out of (see previous page).

IRSN was indeed a splendid host for our meeting, and put on a feast for us at a local farm that also featured a dining room and served as a Bed and Breakfast.  It was located well into the pastoral countryside that lay to the east of the city.

For our entertainment we got a hayride, and saw bulls in their pasture, up close, and inquisitive:

In the same pasture was a herd of pregnant mares:

Then we were treated to a bull"fight" with young men I worried about some (the bulls played their part and were aggressive):

The day ended without bloodshed in the arena, and with a splendid meal.  Bedtime was well after midnight.  Meeting started on time the next morning.
