E. PIRI's journey to HER PLACE of education: On the previous page Piri and her young son Lucit are traveling to a high mountain village where she will be taught her life's work. On that page she enters the last of many valleys on that journey. This valley takes them up to the mountain that is their destination, and their destination is described in another set of pages.
They enter the valley across a low divide that let them down by a river they needed to cross to reach a village where they could obtain supplies for the last full day of jouneying. It is now called the Rio Cinca, and the village is now the town of Ainsa from which this picture was taken:

Ainsa is another of Spain's well-preserved Medieval towns. This particular farmstead in the city could have been here a thousand, or even two-thousand, years ago:

Ainsa today is nothing like the little village that existed there over 2,000 years ago, however. Today it looks like a successful Medieval town of some importance:

That is Audrey looking through the gate at this scene:

A bit further and we come to the church:

And then the main square of Ainsa with this nice hotel:

But this is not what Piri and her traveling companions saw. What they saw was these nearby mountains,

and these more distant ones comprising the Ordesa and Mont Perdido National Parks complex:

They were looking at their destination, but to get there, there was more walking and riding along the river:

The river with the strangely blue waters:

And just a few miles north of Ainsa, while fascianted with the river and the foliage,

Piri was excited and frightened by this announcement: "we can almost see our destination!" Seeing naught but giant, cold mountains, Piri was frightened. Feeling the end of the journey to be near, however, excited her.

In a little while they turned yet another corner, and to her great relief she saw that in fact her destination mountain had greenery all the way to its top! That view is on another set of pages, however.
