Walking through the town gave a variety of views of old monuments such as these green men by a church:

The city's old churches were physically imposing monuments,

And some of the canal scenes are quite nice too, the one above of a church on the water, and this one of residences along the canal:

The artwork on some old homes was quite arresting:

And public squares tend to be well decorated with stone art:

And the shopping district has its quaint architecture as well:

To my growling innards, the waffle merchant to the left was good for a chewy sweet waffle, a drink, and a foot rest,

And just around the next corner and down the street, more of the canal system:

But I am teasing here, we just made a complete circle around my primary visiting goal, the Begijnhof or Beguinage.
