A Return to Manti,
Utah
Part 1

About 32 years ago, Audrey and I visited here.  A year or so later we returned with the two oldest, Mike and Tahja.  We got married and did not return until the year 2000, on a bright July day.

Coming from the North, on Highway 89, the first thing that strikes you about Manti is its Mormon temple, completed in 1888:

It sits on a hill overlooking the small town of Manti.  It was a labor of love to build this edifice, not a dollar was paid for labor.  It was built from local rock, a yellow oolite quarried from the hill upon which it is set.

It is carefully maintained, and the landscaping is a careful mix of bright flowers and dark pines, and some very large and old deciduous trees.

The little town it overlooks also has some interesting homes.  Some new Victorian homes impress, but these two older homes simply enchant.

In front of one of the homes is a dense stand of Hollyhocks.  A visiting bee showed off for the camera.

A front view of the temple is impressive.
