The previous pictures were from the trail before it approached the bottom of the vertical cliff over which the falls "fall." Now we have reached the cliffs and are turning back to the north to follow the base of the cliff to the falls.
The trail is excellent, and even has stairsteps where the rocky climb is steep!
By this time the elevation gain has been near a thousand feet, and the suspense is mounting as the end of the trail seems to loom:
But, as is usual in mountain hikes, when you are sure you have reached the end, the real end comes in view and is a way off yet, but the dark streaks in several rock clefts just ahead suggest the falls are very close:
And, finally, here it is!
What? You don't see a waterfall? Look more closely:
There is water splashing where the grey and the tan rock meet, in this picture, please believe me!
You were expecting a river falling over the cliff perhaps? This mountain range is a literal island in the desert. It is amazing that there are falls at all!
But see the next page for the beauty of this tiny area that is blessed with running water!
