A Buddhist Temple and Shinto Shrine Complex at Asakusa

The metro dropped me very close by this temple/shrine/pagoda complex, and to get to it one may choose to walk through commercial arcades of this nature, which I found to be quite pleasant:

The first building to hit my eye as I left the commercial arcade was the Sensoji (Buddhist) temple:

Right next door, and the subject of my first attempt to get a closer look, was this pleasant Shinto shrine where a man was doing his ritual purification and prayers were hanging from bulletin boards:

Inside the Buddhist temple I was discreet about taking photos but, flash off, managed to get a few unobtrusively, such as of this woman walking out in traditional dress and the heart of the temple itself with its rich symbolism:

At the heart of the temple sat this shrine loaded with symbolism meaningful to the peaceful religion of Buddhism:

Outside again, I was intrigued by some of the details of this temple structure:

And then I enjoyed the gardens, with its waterfalls, fish, and many shrines:

There were also some very small shrines, and a very rich assortment of statuary

This particular statue was being rubbed by several people while they silently prayed:

Turning back to go out of the complex I ran across its tallest building, a five-storied pagoda and another Buddhist shrine with serious religious activity (rather than touristic activity) taking place, hence a sign to please not enter unless you have temple business to engage in.

Then it was back through the same arcades as before,

And a few more for good measure (the upscale ones not near as busy as the downscale ones):

Later, quite exhausted, I made it to a metro station (a different one, so the conductor had to OK my use of the pre-purchased ticket, which he did since this was one stop less than what I had purchased).

Next we will go on a bus ride to Tokai and see some countryside along the way.
