Belpech is where Beatrice ran to when she tried to evade the court of the Bishop of Pamiers, Jacques Fournier. It is from here that she called, by messenger, for Barthelemy to come to her aid again, and here is where they met, stayed the night, and then moved on to Mas-Saintes-Puelles where they were both arrested.

So what was the significance of this place? It has little significance except this is where our main characters spent their last night together in this life.

Downtown Belpech has an assembly area, not unlike a bandstand, and a church that has a very old entryway, no doubt dating back to our time of interest.

In the old days, a castle rose on a hill just above the city.

Like any moutain town, it had a continuous fresh water supply.

But what I found most compelling about Belpech was its surroundings, which border on the beautiful in terms of little ridges with villages on top of them, and valley vistas that ran all the way back to the Pyrenees!
