Celles is where Beatrice lived, in our Fairytale, when her family was approached by Berenger de Rocquefort for Beatrice's hand in marriage. The family accepted. Beatrice did too and at the age of 17 was on her way back through Caussou, her birthplace, over the pass into Montaillou where she would be the castle's chatelaine. A really good ingredient for a fairytale.
Celles today is a few adjoined houses along a highway, with a creek and fields behind them:

Though there are some older structures among what are essentially modern houses, I have a hard time picturing this as being representative of what there was 700 years ago.

One thing the same today as then, of course, is the creek and the land itself. As you can see there are houses across these fields, associated with another village perhaps.

But just barely across the creek there seems to be an old house in the trees:

A closer look reveals an old house that may have portions going back into the time of Beatrice! Let's walk around it and peek into the yard:

OK, close enough, they have a German shepherd at the gate. This is the type of place I'd expect to find the de Planisolles family, one with stone and mortar fencing and a gate. The house is right across from a more recently built church, and with it we will finish up our visit to Celles:

From here, Beatrice moved to Montaillou.
